It's called ignorance.

black people(africans) were selling each other into slavery long before the white man got there.
of course then there was indentured servants..

who legally owned the first slave in the US?(back then, colonies)...thats right..a black man that was a former 'indentured servant' was the first person to legally 'own' a slave in the northern colonies....go ask him for an apology

Lots of interesting comments - happy to see people have pointed out slavery is still happening and it's ancient Roman origins as well.

I do think it's nice that someone occasionally apologizes for slavery, that way we know there are people in the world, who still oppose this ongoing catastrophe.

I suppose there have been fair and good slave owners in ancient societies, and even perhaps in places where indentured service is the alternative to starvation - but the fact of the matter is, owning a slave doesn't encourage kindness.

So apologies, are always in order - my two cents.
