An attorney for a victim of Uruguay's 1973-1985 dictatorship has asked his government to request the extradition of former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger over his alleged role in the notorious Operation Condor.

The Latin American dictatorships of the time "were mere executors" of a "plan of extermination" hatched in the United States by a group led by Kissinger, said attorney Gustavo Salle, who represents the family of Bernardo Arnone.

What do you remember when you hear the name Henry Kissinger?

I think of Kissinger's policy that accused him of war crimes, particularly for his policy toward Vietnam, Cyprus, Cambodia, Chile and East Pakistan and of course Operation Condor.

Operation Condor was a campaign of state terrorism and intelligence operations implemented by right-wing dictatorships that dominated the Southern Cone in Latin America from the 1950s to 1980s, heavily relying on numerous assassinations. The systematic counter-terrorism aimed both to deter democratic influence and ideas disseminated in the region and to control active or potential opposition movements against these governments.

Operation Condor, which took place in the context of the Cold War, was given at least tacit approval by the United States which feared a Marxist revolution in the region. The targets were officially leftist guerrillas, but in fact included all kinds of political opponents, including their families and others, as reported by the Valech Commission.

It is pretty clear that the foreign policies, designed and created by Henry Kissinger, in many countries around the world, are considered as war crimes by many international laws and regulations. Support for the campaign of state terrorism against leftist socialistic regimes in South America should be enough for Henry to go to international tribunal - but as usual, we shall never see people like him in a court of law.

Instead they receive Nobel Prizes for Peace.

Uhm.. Why is this one of the most discussed threads here on ATS??? Just the mere mention of this man's name makes you think on the biggest economic and government conspiracies in recent history, with the result of hundreds of millions and perhaps more than a billion people being impacted by it.

Leave Henry alone - he is a Nobel Peace prize winner!

Let us forget how many people his foreign policies impacted and killed.

Too many powerful members - like him - are in CFR; which only means that he and his buddies are comletly ABOVE da Law.

I mean, he's got to be working for someone, somewhere...right?

Actually the answer is yes, his direct ' higher up' is Cardinal Egan, he can't tie his shoe lace without the Cardinal telling him to.

Henry works for himself. Kissinger Associates, Inc., founded in 1982, based in New York City. They are consultants who advise clients on government relations.
