Go out for a walk on garbage day.
I'm not suggesting you start rummaging through your neighbour's bin, but take a walk around your hood on the day they do pick-up. It's amazing some
of the stuff people throw away, and if your at all creative, you can make treasure out of their trash.
We have two bulk garbage pick-up days a year in our area, so people put out furniture, appliances, computers, shelf units, almost anything you can
think of. The city even puts ads in the paper so people will go out and take what they want. It's like a big free garage sale for two days.
Look around some of the thrift stores in your area, the ones that are run by charities that sell used stuff. It's always fun to look through these
types of stores, and sometimes you find an unexpected treasure for almost nothing.
What you reuse will keep a little bit more out of a landfill for a little bit longer.
Edit: Don't forget the weekend garage sales, but go early.
I've found some amazing art, animal hides, old trunks, etc... All stuff that decorates my place right now..
