They have no games for the PS3 worth playing, so they decided to do this instead.

................................
As long as people are willing to pay they can make as much as they want.
................................

See,

We're not talking about iPods here.

We're talking about the Health or possibly the life of Human beings.

Taking Cholesterol medicine is not a luxury for me. It's not a matter of how much I'm willing to spend on medicine. It's a matter of having the desire to see my son finish collage, get a career, and have a family.

My mom had to have a valve replaced in her heart. She HAS to take anti-rejection medicine to stay alive. Again, anti-rejection medicine is not exactly a luxury item for her. It's a matter of life or death.

I don't consider it "OK" to charge someone AS MUCH as they'd be WILLING to pay to stay alive. Almost sounds akin to blackmail to me.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

"Oh yeah? You need this anti-rejection medicine to stay alive Mrs. Doe? How much ya got in yer bank account? 'cause we might be able to make you a deal!"

I can't wait to read the ransom note. "We got yer Mom's anit-rejection medicine. How much is her life worth to ya punk?”

Yeah, I just can’t go along with some concepts.

I’m not opposed to a free enterprise system, but who was it that said “Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.”

I just feel there are some thing’s that shouldn’t be “for profit.”

And, there are some basic needs that I feel should have reasonable costs associated with them. Food, Shelter, Clothing, Education, Electric Violins, Medicine. Etc...

it raises an interesting point though.

id much rather give £300 to a charity that put a little distributed box in my house, that used the broadband when i wasnt to let resarchers for these things do what they need to do on a web of machines, than spend £10 for a silly red nose.

I wonder how many houses will burn down with a ps3 on 24hours a day

Why not consider profiting yourself from this? Instead of trying to petty and limit profits how about demanding because you helped in the research you get a piece of the profits…
…………………………………………..
I have no desire to make a profit taking advantage of the pain and suffering of my fellow humans. Seems kinda cruel to me.

…………………………………………….
…or that all those who shared processing time get the drug as needed?
…………………………………………….
What about someone who couldn’t afford a PS3 and therefore wasn’t able to participate in the research? Should we just consider them SOL? “Sorry b#t#h, you didn’t help us bake the bread so now you can just starve! We have a profit margin to maintain here!!”

……………………………
…Instead of trying to petty and limit profits?
……………………………
So, you consider it “Petty” to feel concerned about the health and welfare of our fellow human beings?

Who was it who asked “Dude? Am I my brothers keeper?” And wasn’t the reply something to the effect of “You bet yer narrow rump roast you’re your brother’s keeper!!”

When I lived in California, I knew of a woman who ate canned cat food most of the time. She did this because that’s all she could afford after she bought the medicine she needed to stay alive.

Are you, by any chance, an Emergency Room doctor in my town? Cause if you are, I’m moving.

...Spelling Error...

I agree.
It is blackmail.
This basically means rich people have more of a "right" to live than those who are less wealthy. Pretty unfair.

By the way, America is a Democracy. The capitalistic republic part really isn't very American at all.

You must be joking right? www.youtube.com...

PS3 is destroying everything put together on its own!!!!!!

Indeed, it's purely the PS3 which is pushing f@h into one of the most powerful computing simulations ever created:

Client statistics by OS

OS Type Current TFLOPS* Active CPUs Total CPUs
Windows 153 161137 1627793
Mac OS X/PowerPC 7 8843 95503
Mac OS X/Intel 9 2932 7524
Linux 43 25321 216208
GPU 44 749 2251
PLAYSTATION®3 734 29977 35463
Total 990 228959 1984742

In the next 24 hours or so that figure will smash through the 1 PetaFLOP mark, obliterating the previous record held by BOINC by more than a factor of 2, with the vast majority of that processing power coming from a relative handful of PS3 consoles.
