Some light as been shed on the NZ SAS role in Afghanistan

New Zealand SAS troops have helped destroy several al Qaeda training camps, caves and tunnels in Afghanistan and captured as many as 70 prisoners.

Defence Minister Phil Goff has just made public the first official summary of special forces deployments, provided to Parliament's foreign affairs, defence and trade select committee.

It quotes previously unpublished wording of the US presidential citation awarded to the SAS in December 2004 following their deployment as part of the US-led coalition task force K-Bar.

Its good that the NZ government has finally gotten around to acknowledging the NZ SAS US presidential citation. But there is to one question that needs to be asked.

Why isn't the NZ SAS still serving in Afghanistan ?
Special forces are needed more then ever in Afghanistan.
Note I am reasonable certain that the soldiers that appear in the photo are a part of the provincial reconstruction team rather then the NZ SAS .
