Electric bill increase?

I guess this topic fits ok here. Has anyone gotten a substantial increase in their electric bills?

One family around here had a an electric bill that roughly doubled.

Our electric bill went up by 30+%, and perhaps will be even higher on the next bill. This was not because of more usage, but an increase added by the electric company.

I am in Virginia. Does anyone else have a similar situation?

Yes and I have Municipal Power! Something is going on, it could be a long hot summer!

I wish I had some hard numbers to throw at you, but I don't know if I have the numbers quite correct. I want to see our most recent electric bill and make some comparisons.

The increase is significant though. This would put people who are already "scraping by" in a worse position.

My brother heard from the news that the reason was the cost of coal went up.

I don't think I like what is going on. Is fuel going to be out of reach for poor folks? Is it like a big "screw you," don't get in the way of our profit? I also question what all this extra profit is actually funding? It's suppressive to price something that people need, outside what they can afford.

The increase in price is unfairly sharp. I'm curious as to what is going on.
