No time to think. Stay down and stay alive. That damn machine gun was
beginning to slice us into smaller pieces. Someone got on the radio and
called for air support. Grids and clicks were given, then a response came
back saying ETA was eight minutes. Eight minutes would seem like eight
years! My M-79 was almost too hot to touch after about two minutes, as I
kept lobbing HE rounds in the general direction of the gun. God, I used to
be so accurate with this thing. Probably because nobody was shooting at
my ass most of the time like they were now!

And so another day "In-Country".

War has never been good to anyone. Takes away your youth and your
innocence. Makes you begin to question authority.
Puts your everyday health in jeopardy.

Lets you see the uncivilized hiding behind the civilized.

Makes you see ghosts.

Fills you with the knowledge to know that it shouldn't exist. But it does.

Incoming friendly mortars arrived with vengeance. We love Camp Carrol’s big guns. It gives us sense of security in situation like this. For some minutes, the murderous 50 caliber fire halted. Giving us enough time breathe and duck for a better cover.

Sniper fire continues to pick careless marines. Lt. called in Marine gun ships. Marines shouted with joy when two gun ships dived low and produced amazing fireworks down the direction of 50 caliber machine guns.
