Nano Technology - END OF THE UNIVERSE?

Ive seen a t.v program about Nano Technology...
It was claimed that in the far future N.T will come
to a level where Nano Compilers/Decompilers will be
produced.
Those Nano "Robots" will be able to Compile/Decompile
Any matter/anti-matter and RECOMPILE it into any other
matter/anti-matter.

Now I ask YOU...
Can't we all see that we must not take the step above?
Taking that step into the "Future" will be 1 step too far!
My best guess is that this is the FINAL step that will put
an end to ENTIRE EXISTENSE !!!
After that step EVEN GOD wont be able to help us !
By taking that step we will become GOD HIMSELF.

AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF ALL !!!!

If that were the case, it wouldn't matter much anyways. We could possibly be living from the effects of a former superior race who did the very same thing to create us. If it happened, we wouldnt know it, all knowlege would be lost and it would be like it had always been this way for us.

yes I'd heard somewhere that it may be possible for nanobotts to self replicate and if this was the case that they would end up overrunning the earth.

Personally, I don't really think it's possible for man to create something that will completely destroy man. But.. stranger things have happened.

All it takes is sheer will and of course lots of $$ to destroy mankind. The easiest thing would be to engineer new viruses based on stuff like smallpox that is easily spread. Introduce several of these virus types so that not one cure will be effective -- it might not be able to destroy 100% of humans but a good 60-90% of the world's population would be wiped out. Current civilization would be wiped out that's for sure.

Nanobots... They wouldn't rebel like androids... They couldn't have an AI. Humans will control them by sending simple instructions (then they will move by nano motors or by external electromagnetics), and they will complete their tasks. Job finished= wait for another instruction/return to bay.

They would become dangerous if they would be controlled by something like Skynet or someone like Bob Page (I hated the Karkians walking out of the UC- rings any bells?) would have control over it.

And I don't really think that these bots would be the cause of the end of universe. You could use your imagination and think of anything- but I don't think that from a scientifical point of view they would be any danger, destroying the quantum structure of the universe or breaking atoms... they can't be THAT small.

And material nanobots (few atoms) wouldn't be able to interfere with antimatter. They wouldn't recompile it...

Well I believe due to the advent of recent technology, the atom/hydrogen bomb, it is possible to completely destroy life on the surface of Earth if it ever got out of hand. Of course not entirely through initial contact but through fallout, the changing of the atmosphere, ice age etc.

On the matter at hand though, the idea of machines (or nano technology) taking over could only be possible if machines were eventually produced with intellectual thought, and of course the desire for greed, destruction, and conquest.

Advances in technology are increasing at an alarming rate, and it could be possible but not certain. Makes me think of something I read that by the time technological advances occur at an instantaneous rate, man will be consumed by it's creations.

There is an episode on the X-Files called "S.R. 819" that has to do with Nano Technology. Good episode.

Think about this, though. If nanobots could reconfigure materials atomically, adding or removing protons and electrons, there wouldn't be any want in the world. There would be no use for money, there would be nothing that would be "valuable" because you could take some grass to your local nanofarm and have it changed into platinum.

Then what would be the point of wars, wealth would be taken out of the equasion. Sickness wouldn't be an issue, the nanobots could identify the rogue cells and repair/remove them. The air would be completely clean, because polutants could be dismantled into better materials. Completely fresh water. Imagine!

And as for becoming God, nanobots won't ever have the ability to breath a soul into man. God will always be able to help us, he is infinite and omnipresent. You needn't fear that

Isn't nanotechnology just another step towards evolution - or could we argue otherwise?? ie What's the BIG plan for the Universe? How would we ever know??

Oh, yeah, I was talking about Robots when I said that comment.

I'm sure we could make one huge/multiple big bombs/viruses that could whipe out Mankind.
