OK, I have one for those who know the inns and outs of a computer.
One of my CD-ROM drives ( I have 3) opens and closes whenever it dang well pleases. Sometimes it does it really fast, opening and closing over and over.
It just started doing it out of the clear blue and nothing was added or changed just before it started.
I was sitting here last nite (it's spazzing out as I type this) writing a paper and the goofy thing just kept doing it for 20 minutes. I was about to start yelling at it "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU!!
any Ideas?

Peace to my machine,
BG

Do you have Aol Instant Messenger installed? I know of an exploit (let me RESTATE that...I've heard of it...I don't know how to do it !!!) that allows others to do stuff over chat programs. Update your virus protection if you have it, get one if you don't and run some type of trojan scanner like SpyBot. Most likely it's an electrical thing, but it could be an intruder messing with you.

Yep. That's exactly the one I use as well. It's simple and free (yes, as in beer!) Thanks for adding that kurt.

You know, when I read what you said about AOL it dawned on me that this started right after I installed AOL messenger about 2 weeks ago.
uh oh.
I have zone alarm pro and norton (all updated). Would you recommend additional protection?

No, just get yourself SpyBot, or Ad-Aware or any other of the spyware removers.

You'd be surprised what's installed along side your popular programs and snuck in as browser cookies.

Hmm yes... Didn't affect me that script... I expect ATS disables scripts in text inputs - good for them

I made a quick program about a year ago in Python, which opens and closes your CD drive/s, opens up things like Word and starts talking to you, and other freaky stuff. I made in using COM and the Win32 API.

I have seen several 'joke' programs since then that does something simular too. Pretty sweet. Scares the hell out of 'newbies'.
