Apparently Bush administration officials have reported to U.S. lawmakers that as much as $3 Billion dollars have been wasted through fraud and abuse by private contractors couple this news with the decision to send 21,000 more troops to Iraq and you have a recipe for more negative public support for the Bush administration's Iraqi agenda.

Since 2003, the U.S. Government Accounting Office, and inspectors general in the State Department and Department of Defense, have intensified efforts to determine how much reconstruction money has been wasted.

Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq to oust Saddam Hussein, members of Congress have been outraged by reports of corruption in contracting, and investigations have led to a number of convictions.

However, with the U.S. military effort in Iraq facing difficulty, and Democrats in control on Capitol Hill, the issue is being placed under a magnifying glass by congressional committees.

Pending the outcome of ongoing probes the final amount of the waste ticket could climb even higher than originally thought leaving many to wonder how we can overcome such monumental waste, the answer will come in the form of higher taxes in sure.

What else is new. I guess they figure that all the other vultures in this war are robbing the USA why not them too. Hundreds of millions of dollars in cash just up and walks away without a trace. In history this war will be looked upon with shame, and the current administration will be a dark blotch in our long history of presidencies.

Aren't most of the contractors US?

And yes, this is nothing new, I've worked in the engineering consturction industry for over 20 years, and seen examples of abuse on all contracts.

Its just like Car Insurance, Health Insurance and Credit cards.....When they get ripped off, defrauded or made to pay up for mistakes, who gets it in the end? We do.

Instead of worrying about freedom for Iraqi's we should be worrying about ourselves and our children. With all the waste we put into Iraq we could have possibly fed half the needy children worldwide or possibly put homeless in homes here in the USA and Great Brittain. We may have called the French cowards for not involving themselves in this , but they were the smart ones.

Exactly. For example, the Big Dig in Boston:

Original estimate: $2.8 billion
Final cost: $14.6 billion.

After reading the Ed Brown thread on not paying taxes, which was quite a long read, I decided to post this piece just for the fact that it shows why our government is in the shape it is, due to flagrant spending and horrible mis-management of tax money spent on stupidity.

Is it any wonder that americans are sick of paying taxes to broke down system of runaway government spending and watching vulture like companies devour our tax money in backroom deals made by our elected officials.

It just shows the moral fabric of a nation on the fast track to destruction from within, the funny thing is no one seems to notice how low we have stooped as a nation.
