Could this work if REALLY tried?

If the US is in Iraq for the better interests of the people in Iraq, why not gather the leaders from the Shia, sunni, kurds, and based on population and negotiating leverage debate the future of Iraq.

*disclaimer* For those that want to chime in a say, they just want to kill and would never agree on anything, please let the rest of us assume.

Take all of each sides complaints and needs into consideration and begin the process. It has been done before; Balken states, germany (bad example I know).

Land. Oil. Political power. religious freedoms.

These are the main players from my perspective. They know how much estimated oil there is, they can divide the wealth accordingly.

If the Iraq goverment came out and stated this, I believe it would be a major step in the right direction for two reasons.

1). It might work.
2). It shows that America is not there to steal the oil and install some US friendly government that will be americas pawn.

Does anyone remember Vietnam? = Soviets funded the north which kept costing US lives.

Soviet/Afghan war = US funded the Afhgans to kill many Soviet lives.

Present day Iraq = Iran funding so-called terrorists costing US lives.
