SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Tennis Channel agreed to buy the local ATP tournament and will begin operating it next year.
"Owning the tournament will permit the network to continue its aggressive promotion of the sport by presenting it like no other," Tennis Channel
president Steve Bellamy said Wednesday.
This year's tournament will be called the Tennis Channel Open, though it will be operated by sports marketing and management agency IMG, managing
partner to the tournament's current owner, Scottsdale Tournament Productions.
The tournament, which starts Monday and runs through Feb. 27 this year, was founded in 1986.
