OXFORD, Miss. -- John Daly's wife pleaded guilty Friday to a federal money laundering charge.
Sherrie Miller Daly and her parents, Alvis and Billie Miller, were indicted on charges stemming from what authorities said was a drug ring and an
illegal gambling operation.
No sentencing date was set for Sherrie Daly. She could face a maximum prison sentence of five years, a fine of $250,000 or both, Assistant U.S.
Attorney John Hailman said.
Alvis Miller was sentenced to 2½ years in prison. Billie Miller received five months to serve and five months of home supervision.
Prosecutors said earlier the two-time major champion didn't know about his wife's activities, which took place between 1996-02. Daly met his fourth
wife at a tournament in Memphis, Tenn., in 2001 and married her seven weeks later.
Hailman said Sherrie Daly's plea was the second she had entered to the charge. In April, she and her mother agreed to a plea deal on lesser charges. A
judge rejected the plea agreement, and Sherrie Daly withdrew her guilty plea and sought a jury trial.
