Athens, Greece (Sports Network) - Tony Azevedo scored a last-second winning goal to give the United States a thrilling 7-6 victory over Croatia in the
opening match for both men's water polo teams at the 2004 Olympics.
Azevedo's goal came 26 seconds after Croatia had tied the game. It was a slow- paced game in the first half with the United States leading 3-0.
Three-time Olympian Wolf Wigo sent the pass to Azevedo on the left side for the winning mark.
"We always had problems in shooting too quickly," said Azevedo. "This time it worked out perfectly. I saw there were two seconds left, and I knew I
had to do something real quick. Fortunately, it worked out for the best."
