TORONTO (AP) - Andre Agassi was upset by Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3, 6-3 Thursday in the second round of the Tennis Masters Canada tournament, a
blow for the eight-time Grand Slam champion's U.S. Open preparations.
Melzer, ranked No. 61, dominated the 10th-seeded Agassi from the start. Agassi has won this hard-court event three times.
Also Thursday, top-ranked Roger Federer topped Robin Soderling 7-5, 6-1 in his second-round match.
Federer was scheduled to play Max Mirnyi or Paradorn Srichaphan later. Tournament organizers hoped to squeeze in 16 second-round and eight third-round
matches Thursday because of rain earlier in the week.
Defending champion Andy Roddick was to face Feliciano Lopez.
