NEWPORT, Wales (AP) _ England's Simon Khan equaled a European tour record Friday by shooting a 9-under 27 through the first nine holes of the second
round of the Wales Open.
Khan had one eagle and seven birdies over the first nine holes. He finished with an 11-under 61 for the round, one shot off the tour 18-hole record of
60.
As the round went on I couldn't help but think of 59.
Eleven players share the European PGA Tour record of 60.
Khan shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round on Thursday.
Several people have shot a 27 over nine holes on the European tour before, the last being Sweden's Joakim Haeggman. He accomplished the feat on the
Old Course at St. Andrews during the Alfred Dunhill Cup in 1997.
