Mario Veit beat Egypt's Kabary Salem to become the interim World Boxing Organisation super middleweight champion. The German won a split decision in
the fight in Dortmund on Saturday.
Current WBO champion Joe Calzaghe challenges Glengoffe Johnson for the IBF light heavyweight crown on 5 June in Manchester.
Should he win that fight and choose to stay at light heavyweight, Weit will be declared the new WBO super middleweight champion.
Calzaghe destroyed Veit within a round when he challenged for the Welshman's title three years ago.
But that is the only blemish on the German's 44-fight record, and he has won 13 times since that defeat.
WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei, a possible future opponent for Calzaghe, defeated the previously unbeaten Argentine Hugo Garay in his
first defence.
He claimed a majority decision on the same bill as Veit.
