Aaron Boone could miss the whole of the baseball season after injuring his left knee playing basketball. Doctors believe the New York Yankees starting
third baseman has torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Yankees have the opportunity to void part or all of the $5.75m contract Boone signed in December as basketball is listed as a potentially risky
activity. Boone hit just .254 with six homers and 31 RBI in 54 games for the Yankees after being acquired from Cincinnati at the July 31 trade
deadline. However, he assured himself a place in Yankee history with an 11th-inning homer that took his side to the 2003 World Series against the
Florida Marlins.
