Kaz Sasaki will not be returning to the Mariners as a closer for next season. He has decided to stay in Japan with his wife and children.

Sasaki had already signed for 2004 with options for 2005 but has decided to lose the remainder of his $9.5 million he has left to go on his contract. It looks like he won't be pitching again in the United States but doesn't rule out the possibility of pitching in Japan.

This will no doubt, hurt the Mariners in a lot of ways, he is the leading team leader in saves, and i bet that the Mariners are going to do everything that they can to keep him in Seattle.

it is hard to know what to think on this guy. 2 years ago he was great, last year he was spotty and ineffective a large part of the year, then he was hurt and to top that off he injured himself "falling down the stairs" with a suitcase. just gotta wonder......

Still big news for him leaving and not coming back next season....doesn't matter if he is good or great. Him not returning hurts the Mariners.
