Manchester United have confirmed they have made a bid for Everton striker Wayne Rooney.

The offer is believed to be 20million, which would match Newcastle's bid for the 18-year-old England striker.

United are waiting for a response from their Barclays Premiership rivals.

A Manchester United spokesman said: "I can confirm we have made an official bid for Wayne Rooney - and we have not had a response yet."

And boss Alex Ferguson added on MUTV soon after: "We've made a bid today - he's a fabulous player, he showed that at Euro 2004 - and is a young player.

"He's not the finished article yet, but we've got experience of bringing young players to the club and bringing them on."

Rooney would be a great addition, but will he get playing time. Yes, but when playing against lesser clubs. Rooney should he go has to compete with Saha and Van Nistelroy for him to rise in favor at the club.

In other news:
The Manchester United reserved disposed on Dinamo Bucharest with Bellami being the stand out player. I just watched it today.

Big major signing for Man United. Rooney is one of the top talents out there and they never missed out on there man. This could really turn there season around if they are not in that bad a shape by the time he is fit to play.

Ferguson will definatly give him the riot act about his conduct on and off the pitch, make no mistake about that. Rooney will surely be put in his place. :loudhorn:
