Aston Villa boss David O'Leary has rejected reports linking him with a move for Ipswich's Darren Bent.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that O'Leary was keen on signing the England Under-21 international to bolster his strikeforce.

O'Leary admits he is keen to add to his attacking options with Darius Vassell injured, but ruled out a move for Bent.

There's absolutely no truth in it. I say all along, if we are to move this club forward we need five quality players. I couldn't put a figure on it but we need five to take the squad up to 18 players," said O'Leary.

"Five quality players would make a hell of a difference. The squad all around needs strengthening because the facts are there.

"We can get players in for nothing but that is not going to challenge the club to try to move it up to sixth place.
