Sir Bobby Robson would have taken Newcastle down if he had remained in charge, according to deputy chairman Douglas Hall.
Hall believes that the decision to get rid of Robson, and bring in Graeme Souness has already been justified - despite patchy form since his arrival.
"We had to get rid of Sir Bobby Robson because he would have got us relegated," Hall told the Sunday Mirror.
