Former Manchester United defender Ronny Johnsen has announced his retirement from football.

The 35-year-old has spent the past month deciding whether to carry on playing, following his release by Newcastle United in January.

Johnsen signed for The Magpies on a short-term deal in September after he was offloaded by Aston Villa last summer.

Not suprised to be honest, since he left Man U he sorta went downhill and at 35 he is getting a bit past it. Had a good career though....

Former Manchester United and Newcastle stopper Ronny Johnsen has made a U-turn and signed a one year contract at Norwegian outfit Valerenga. The 35-year-old stopper had reportedly resigned himself to retirement last week, but has now elected to extend his career for a final year. In England, Johnsen enjoyed a trophy laden spell at Old Trafford before excelling at Aston Villa for a couple of seasons.
