Newcastle United: Shearer backs fans

Alan Shearer has told the unsettled Newcastle faithful that they are entitled to express their discontent, although says it is too early to press the panic button on Tyneside with key cup games coming up.

During the club's 1-1 home draw with Charlton on Saturday the Newcastle players endured a barrage of boos, as the fans voiced their unhappiness with Graeme Souness's squad.

Since taking over from Sir Bobby Robson in September, the ex-Blackburn boss has failed to improve the club's league position, and they are still 17 points away from the fourth spot their loyal fans feel they could occupy.
