The man who is regarded as the most successful promoter in boxing history, Don King, is on top of the boxing world again.
King now owns three pieces of the heavyweight puzzle. BoxingScene caught up with Don to discuss the current state of the heavyweight division and some of the possible matches that we may see.
BoxingScene: Don, all three of your heavyweight champions have bouts lined up for 2004, Byrd-Jameel McCline, Brewster-Kali Meehan and Ruiz-Andrew Golota. Its going to be pretty busy for you in the next few months.
King: This great country is the land of opportunity and it makes me feel good to give fighters the opportunity to fight for the heavyweight title. Every heavyweight in the division has been ducking Chris Byrd. We tried to get a rematch with Andrew Golota, when we couldnt get that, we did the next best thing, we brought in the number one contender, Jameel McCline. McCline will dare to be great, it took him a long time to get to this point and he is coming to bring the fight to the IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd.
