In a weird twist of sorts, CBS Sportsline ran an article a couple of days ago about former player and current restarant owner John Papadakis hosting recruiting dinners. If John urged the recriuts to play at USC during these events, this is a violation.

Of course this guy did, he's an alum. It's pretty much an idiotic rule, though, if you ask me.

Of course, this may also be a case of CBS Sportsline trying to show that they broke a big story.

Anyway, for all the details - CBS Sportsline Story LINK

That is ridiculous, would you rather them hire "escorts". This sounds like a great evening that would be fun for a lot of people and a good, clean recruiting ploy.

some of the NCAA's rules are on the silly side, the University of Washington was penalized a few years ago for giving recruits a boat ride across lake washington to a function...it's a thin line with a lot of grey area around it....

Does this mean Penn State could wind up winning the National Championship after all, if USC clobbers Texas tomorrow night?

I'm gonna agree that alot of the NCAA rules are on the silly side as TJ said. it reminds me of a guy that played for colorado, but he was a good skier and was in the olympics or some such contest, well the NCAA had a fit about it, not quite sure why maybe he endorsed some lip balm or something. funny thing is they don't freak out about the guys who play minor league baseball in the summer and get paid for it. If they're gonna freak out about some possible recruits getting dinner and speach maybe they need to go.

BHN, that would be sweet justice :approve:

aegis, I remember that, but not what happened to that guy. And I didn't know about the guys who are in the minors over summer, that is complete BS, if that Colorado player got so much flack!
