Second-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France earned a berth in Sunday's final of the $1.3 million Rogers Cup with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory over 10th-seeded
Vera Zvonareva on Saturday.
After needing a tie-breaker to capture the first set, Mauresmo cruised in the second set against her Russian opponent.
Mauresmo will now meet the winner of Saturday's other semifinal between Anastasia Myskina and Elena Likhovtseva in Sunday's championship match.
Myskina and Likhovtseva, both from Russia, reached the round of four with quarterfinal victories on Friday. The third-seeded Myskina, who won the 2004
French Open, defeated 13th-seeded Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria, while the unseeded Likhovtseva advanced with an upset of fifth-seeded American
Jennifer Capriati.
This event shifts between Montreal and Toronto each year. The 2004 champion will collect $189,000.
