The prize money for this year's United States Open has been raised to a record US$17.75 million.
The total purse represents a 5.4 per cent increase, with the men's and women's champions each receiving US$1 million.
This is the 32nd straight year that the United States Tennis Association has given equal prize money to both men and women.
The USTA also announced the first US Open Series - a 10-city North American hardcourt season of ATP and WTA tournaments that begins July 12.
The USTA will offer a US$1.3 million bonus at the US Open to the top three men's and women's finishers in the US Open series, which gets under way
next week with the Bank of the West Classic and the Mercedes-Benz Cup.
