Martina Navratilova got off to a winning start at Eastbourne on Sunday with a straight sets victory over a player less than half her age. The former
Wimbledon champion beat 22-year-old Mara Santangelo of Italy 6-4 6-3 in the first qualifying round.
The 47-year-old is preparing to play singles at Wimbledon for first time in a decade later this month.
"If I'm a bit rusty I have good reason to be. I've now won a match so that's good," she said afterwards.
