The Giants reacquired guard Jason Whittle from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday in a move to help New York's
struggling offensive line.
Whittle spent five seasons with the Giants, starting 14 games in 2002. He signed with the Bucs last season as an unrestricted free agent and had an
up-and-down year after breaking a leg in a minicamp.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder started the first five games at right guard for Tampa Bay. He played a reserve role the rest of the season.
Whittle, who is also a long snapper, was listed as a backup center behind John Wade on the Bucs' depth chart this season.
The offensive line has not only struggled in the preseason, but there is concern about starting left guard Barry Stokes. He has missed the last two
preseason games with a pulled muscle.
Second-year pro Wayne Lucier started for Stokes the last two weeks.
