UPDATE

From BBC

Taiwan Compromises

Taiwan's parliament passed a clause in a bill on Thursday to allow referendums to be held on sensitive issues such as changing the island's name and constitution, despite stern warnings from China.

TAIPEI (Reuters)

China just doesn't get the message do they, seems almost orchestrated. China is going to space and they are still crying about a tiny parcel of land.

The question is why is Taiwan pushing China's buttons and is the United States willing to stand up to the imminent Chinese reaction to suppress Taiwan's independence?

Whether or not they CAN take Taiwan depends on what we are commited to do about it. It would definitely cause a showdown between the U.S. and China.

Does anyone know if we ever sold Taiwan the Aegis subs or not? If we did, that might alter China's willingness to act rashly.
