This comes from no actual experience, just so you know, only from what I've heard.

Personally I like a crossbow and arrows made with a heavy wood.

but a crossbow is not like a normal bow....and heavy wood indeed is very nice...although i also like the alu onces. I like the carbon arrows with the titan points best though

The bows that the Mongols and the Huns used were recurved and excellent for use on horseback. They conquered much of Asia and Europe with these bows.
www.archerysociety.org...

The British longbows were also very good and effective. The archers were a source of much contempt from their enemies.

But I am sure the bows now are better. Lots of power and easier to draw. The old longbows required as much as 100 lbs of pressure to draw them back to the ear. Most of us would have a very difficult time doing that.

mind you, not only did it take LOTS of force to draw the old longbows, but it also took SUSTAINED force to hold them if you didnt fire right away.

How fast can you reload and fire with these new bows?

Are they a suitable weapon for combat?

got no idea at all.
If you played DeusEx, the bow was pretty effective, with quite a short reload time, but I don't know how that would equate to real life

i never timed how fast i can get a second shot off. thats why you make the first shot count

Although I like the longbows they are more diffulcult to be accurate with. The compound bows are very accurate and easy to get a quick reload with because it doesnt take as much time to sight in with. So in short I would have to say the compound bow for a hunting or assasination(lol) but for fun............by far the long bow.

single cam on the bottom, round wheel on the top. no tuning as you would on a dual cam bow. i also enjoy shooting a recurve but am more accurate with my compound. i can get a kill shot on a deer at 45yrds.

In the future it seems that the bow will be the best weapon that is all.

Funny that the LOTR portrays the bow in such a positive light.

Xtrembow,

you must love those movies?
