I believe that NASCO, the project for the superhighway between mexico and canada (www.nascocorridor.com...), is more of a mass evacuation tool
than it is a tool for commerce.
Evacuate to where? and from where? Why does it totally bypasses the coasts etc?
BTW the whole interstate highway system was also thought of as a city evacuation tool during the early part of the cold war in the event of nuclear
strikes. Not that it would have worked mind you.
