I found this on another forum.

Is that a strange color calibration of a Mars pic?

Or is it a genuine blue river in Mars ?

Sorry for my english.

On the originating site of that photo this is found directly below the colour enhanced photo.

This color image covers only the center swath of the full image, and is composed of images acquired through infrared, red, and blue-green filters. The color has been enhanced to better show the subtle color differences. It is not natural color or how it would appear to normal human vision.

That's a river, if I've ever seen one. Do you have any more info on this? It has to be a fake, otherwise it would have been all over the media as soon as it was released.

Did anyone read justgeneric's post?

The photo is a fake, they just put it in a different perspective to make it seem like a river.

They changed the color to make it look like a river, which they did a really bad job at. IMO

The pic per se isn't a fake, but has been color enhanced for effect! So, relax! We haven't found a genuine color pic on the Mars landscape just yet.

And, even if one slips out of NASA, they'll say it is color enhanced!!

You can't beat the system. I dunno if we'll ever get to know the reality of Mars.

It resembles a fissure more to me. And I thought the coloring was done well.

I found the page where the picture discussed is located.

Here

This page is more pictures

And this is their Homepage

But yeah, that's definitely not authentic color, although i do have to admit that some of the other pictures are quite nice.

As has been explained. It's a false colour image. The use of Infra red filters mixed with the other colour filters produces results like this. It helps to reveal things that one wouldn't normally see. It's very handy for scientists. Crime scene photographers also use infra red and sometimes ultra violet photography. And it's also used artistically to create some surreal looking images.

You've never seen Mars photos in colour? There are thousands out there.

They're from the latest Mars probe called the MRO it just started collecting data in the last few months. It has a really high res camera on board (1 pixel = 30cm at 300km)

They won't be deleted. You can find them on the official site here: hiroc.lpl.arizona.edu...

And in false colour images some rocks and soil appear blue, but like I said above it's due to them being photographed in near infra red.

like Orion437 shows in these photos above,

it doesnt matter what colors they used to show the pics, bottom line is that there are signs of water patterns.

I personally think these photos are too good to be true, (but who am i).

They almost remind me of a rendering from a 3D program like bryce or something.

To me that looks way TOO BLUE to be a river...

It almost looks like a river that someone poured a few gallons of blue food coloring into about 50 feet upstream about a minute before the photo was taken...
