Oh joy, more Apocaphilia from the head Apocaphiliac. I just wanted to remind people that this "prediction" amounts to nothing more then a "gut
feeling" on Lovelocks part. These types of predictions are dangerous. The reason why they are dangerous is due to the fact that it causes Irrational
Despair, Hopelessness, Cynicism, and Nihilism.
Lovelock is very well-credentialed - he has a doctorate in biophysics (as well as a doctorate in medicine and chemistry) so he's no dummy. He
invented the device that first measured residue amounts of pollution, and Rachel Carson wrote "Silent Spring" from that. He also has more than 50
patents in inventing devices to measure pollution, etc.
As a long-standing doctor, chemist and biophysicist who has long been interested in ecology, I would imagine he's one of the best qualified
scientists on the planet to make this kind of judgment. He most definitely isn't just pulling ideas out of nothing. He's a researcher for one and he
pretty much is the father of ecology.
