Among the 50 largest U.S. cities, Seattle is second only to
San Francisco in the percentage of residents identifying
themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual, a new study reports.

A researcher used census and other government statistics to
offer an estimate of a segment of the population in cities,
metropolitan areas and congressional districts nationwide
whose size has only been guessed in the past.

The study reports found that 12.9 percent of Seattle residents
— roughly 57,900 people — identified themselves as gay, lesbian
or bisexual. In San Francisco, 15.4 percent of residents identified
themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual.

The study's findings are drawn from newly released U.S. census
data on same-sex households showing that between 2000 and
2005, the reported number of gay-couple households increased
by 30 percent in the United States and by 50 percent in Washington
state.

This both does'nt surprise me and surprises me at the same time.

I always knew Seattle had a large Gay/Lesbian and Bisexual
community, especially in the Capital hill area, but I did'nt think
we'd be the second largest in the country.

I'm actually happy knowing this, as I myself am Bi, though I prefer
males more, this means I don't face the kind of discrimination found
in other parts of the country.

Comments, Opinions?

I wonder what city has the larges gay percentage overall. I know that there is this little corner of Cape Cod called Provincetown that has a huge gay population, but it's not one of the 50 largest cities.

San Francisco has the highest percentage of gay/lesbian/bisexual
individuals in the country, with 15.4% of the population being so.

P-Town has a total population of 3,431, with a Gay population of 2,822. It's a very small town, with very little chance for reproductive growth. That's something like 80%. It's a great study on population control actually.

Anyway, of the big cities, no doubt 15% is pretty high when only an estimated 10% of the total population is gay

Seattle is not a dump nor is there a prevalence of drug selling
or consumption, not that I personally have a problem with drugs.

In fact there has been a big project to get rid of meth in not only
Seattle but the state as well.

Are all gay people addicted to drugs?

Canadian habits include homosexuality? Or was that drugs too?

Or were you trying to be funny by making absolutely no sense whatsoever?

No, it's not, there are no problems with drugs in Seattle,
there are'nt lots of crimes that are motivated by drugs.

May I suggest you stick to criticizing where you live and
not make accusations about somewhere you don't live.

Wow! I wouldn't have expected some of the places on that list! I'm not gay, and it's really none of my business who is, but I'm completely shocked that Miami/South Beach or Wilton Manors (though it's just a Lauderdale 'burb, not city) are not in the top 10!

the list is pretty bogus, New York has to be in the top 5!

Its the gaylord central of the east coast!
