The world will be very different. Religion will not be as important. There will probably be several more big wars, and then hopefully humanity learns a lesson. If the popunation stabalizes at around 9 billion or 10 billion, then there will still be poor countries. They won't be as poor as they are now though.

Political systems may be different. Democracy, fascism, and communism will all be things of the past. Technology will take over the world. Our thoughts of computers running the world in the 21st century will seem to be quaint and antiquated. If evolution is true, then people will have slightly bigger craniums. Most animal species will be wiped out by humans. It will all be swept under the rug and labeled as 'natural selection'. Scientists will figure out a way to control the weather. A new source of drinking water will be found, as we will be filtering ocean water by then.

Religious intolerance and homophobia will be frowned upon just as much as racism and sexism are now. Most people will be vegetarians, as the number of vegetarians is rising almost exponentially right now. A one world government will be a reality. We will find out if outer space aliens exist or not. People will have awesome technology that we can't even imagine or comprehend today.

Let's hope that the world doesn't become like the terifying futures that are portrayed in 'The Giver'. '1984', 'Brave New World', or other novels!

What surprise? I have not researched anything. I was just making guesses on what the future might be like.

A thousand years ago, the world was ruled by kings, military leaders, sultans, priests, etc. No one then had even thought of the complex political systems that we now have. Things will probably be completely different in a thousand years. Of course, we won't know that, will we?

The number of vegetarians are increasing. It used to be a fringe movement. I just went to a search directory, done a search for statistics, and found some interesting answers. While the exact number isn't known, it is generally accepted that 3% to 5% of the population are now vegetarians. It goes up to 5% to 7% for young people. I also saw an article in an old Time magazine.

The developing countries are somewhere around the same level of development that the present-day industrial countries were at a couple hundred years ago. Only time will tell if they catch up or not.

I knew you were kidding ultra_phoenix . On a serious note though, religious intolerance and homophobia are on the decline. They are being viewed by more and more people as being just as bad as racism and sexism. I saw some interesting statistics about it at www.religioustolerance.com...

I don't think anyone knows what music will be like in a thousand years
And will people still be watching TV and be using internet computers?

There will be more interracial people in a thousand years. Sooner of later, all humans will be the same color, assuming that the world is still around in thousands of years.

I think 1000 years from now the Earth will be in the midst of a full Ice Age...our civilization will sink into dark ages, as our civilzations lose the identities they so proudly bare now...and humanity will lose its hateful differences.

In a sense it will be a blessing in disguise, much suffering at the hands of nature...but only to save us, and though many things of the past will be salvaged, through history and passed down knowledge (written or otherwise)
we will be humbled by nature and have a new found respect for our purpose in life, and begin to seek the answers to our questions...Where are we, where'd we come from, where are we going...How did everything come about...and most important of all...WHY...

Too depressing to conjecture upon; but as the next real war will almost certainly be the last one: and looking at the previous millennium, it's hard to imagine a thousand years without a major war in the coming millennium.
Just as hard to imagine no military accidents for 1,000 years
Here's hoping otherwise; but I'd say 3002 will be a pretty quiet year.

1,000 years from now. We will have space colonies, WWIII will have been over. [Look it up in Nostradamus' book for proof.] Population will be about 5-7 billion. There will be a few more big wars. And Aliens might be here on Earth by then.

What proof?! You don't honestly believe all that do you? the world was meant to end last year according to nostradamus ( as far as i can remember ). Anyway, those predictions could mean nothing or anything. He got lucky with a few things tho, eg; the twin towers...
although a lot of the things he wrote have not come true.

I think that 1000 yrs from now, we could either live in a perfect crime free society, or we could have gone right down the toilet, it all depends on whether we let it happen

In 3002, we will all be dead, most likely because a terrorist cell got ahold of a nuke and started a war, or a virus, and killed off most everybody. There will be a few survivors, but the internet, modern medicine, and most of technology will be gone.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

What about Consentual Anarchy? It's the basic idea that people don't need laws because they've figured out to live with each other without them. If any injustice is commited, the offender's conformity will be reinforced by social ostracism rather than any type of legal sanctions. Then the offender would either eventually admit his wrong & change or the ostracism continues.

Heh! Remember when someone asked Einstein what the use of the new nuclear weapons would be like? He said that if WW III is fought with nuclear weapons, WW IV would be fought with sticks & stones.

IMO, WW III is being fought now...Governments using Social Engineering of the masses as their weapon.

Nostradamus may have been uncannily accurate, but I still don't count his predictions as *proof*.

If anything, CiderGood_HeadacheBad has the most logical response...Either they'll have been able to figure out & solve most of our problems here & be living in a *much better* society or it'll have all gone to $#|+. As extremist as our society is now, we've got a lot of growing up to do in a very short amount of time before many of our most severe problems reach critical mass.

Consentual anarchy? Would people ever be that civilized?

Nostradamus is way too vague, not specific at all. I read a book and wasn't too impressed.

Actually No one is quite sure what Nostradamus predicted, because all of his writings were in Olde French, which has been a dead language since about the 1400s...many of the translations weren't until the predictions started to come true...for instance, hitler, in olde french nostradamus used the word hister, which later translaters said...Oh that must mean hitler cause look at WW2 and all that.

But most linguists now agree that hister was refering to the river Danube (I believe) do to the fact that the river in reference is also called by a name along the lines of a female, and a hister or hyster refers particularly to the part of the female anatomy that makes them female, hence a histerectomy.

And it goes on like that...technically we should already have Star Wars because when the Persian king dressed in blue attacks the west with (missles) the west...(New York) shoots them down but then a few get through and the world comes to a big climatic explosion.

Rubbish...or encrypted, either way we have no idea now what he was truly getting at, and considering he didn't have anyone to help him, unlike the Oracles of Delphi where this was their job, I doubt he was very accurate.

Sane words on NostraD -less of him the better: a delightful though about "hister" being related to the Greek root "hyster-" meaning "womb" and oddly enough the root of hysteria and hysterical -once thought exclusive to the fair sex.
It's just the normal common or garden Latin name for the Danube: the "h" merely reflects the uncertainty with that letter at the time: French had already almost entirely lost the sound, but still wrote the letter -as it does to-day "l'homme" etc in most cases, if there was an "h" in Latin -the result was missed aitches and aitches that shouldn't be there being written.
But that's the French for you.

Well I knew hister was mis translated, just didn't remember correctly the particulars, or the source I got it from rambled too much and confused what they were getting at, because they did mention the greek root meaning. But I got the two basic parts down
Hister = Danube....now if I could only remember what that proficy was, eh oh well...

Ok. And what if the offender don't care about the ostracism ?
