In what appears to be a major upset, Deval Patrick has won the Democratic primary for Governor of Massachusetts. He beat the favorite, AG Tom Reilly,
by a large margin. Another contender was Chris Gabrieli.
This is significant because this is the first time a black has risen to this point in Massachusetts politics. His Republican opponent in November will
be Lt. Gov. Kerry Healy.
Political history will be made one way or another in Massachusetts this fall: either the first elected black governor, or the first elected female
governor.
