El Paso eyes weakened dam

Yet another earthen dam threatening to burst, this one in El Paso. Residents evacuated and seeking shelter. Seems like if it isn't one thing it will be another.

EL PASO — The city ordered several neighborhoods near downtown evacuated Thursday as officials warned that an earthen dam across the border in Ciudad Juarez might be on the verge of breaking.

If the 30-year-old dam is breached, up to 6 million gallons could rush into El Paso, according to an Army Corps of Engineers estimate.

"We're talking like a tidal wave hitting El Paso," Mayor John Cook said.

Im not too surprised. Mexico is not known for high standards of maintainence and engineering in alot of its civil and national projects. I havent heard anything in the news about this, so Im guessing it held. Hopefully its a wakeup call.
