I'm from Canada, 1st post on PATS. Please don't eat me alive! I'm a Libertarian-Socialist (don't ask) and normally I find my current Prime Minister, Steven Harper a "little not to my preference" on almost a daily basis, not that any other political party could do any better or worse.

OK. So now Mr. Harper does something I like and I feel it's important too - equal time. In June legislation making "street racing" a specific criminal offense across Canada will be put up for parliamentary approval. I love all things "fast" as I've raced bikes a number of years. I also have some ER experience as a nurse. Racing is great and "the best fun you can have with your clothes on" but not on public roads. On the race track everyone goes the same direction - not so on the street. It's all very tragic and messy.

I will be very upset if this legislation doesn't make it. But who knows what will happen in the "house" with a minority government. I commend Mr. Harper for this. I suspect on other topics I may not.

Thanx,

Victor K.

This guy is getting to me, I want sooo much NOT to like him but he's just gone and done something else I consider potentially a "good thing". That's twice in one week. Anyway Bilderberger Harper has seen fit to introduce a federal democratic reform limiting terms to 4 year fixed election dates. I think I like this... legislation on this is to be introduced in the house this coming week so it will be interesting to see the pro and con aspects of this.

He also had a news conference in Vancouver where he seemed way happy to take questions in both official languages and seemed quite candid about all except the other bit of legislation regarding the disposition of our appointed senate. On this he would give no details.

Totally different demeanor and mood than in Ottawa... has he been given "advice" concerning his media handler's style? His own? If so by whom? Is this indicative of a media re-alignment or change of the staus quo? Feels like it. I'm not sure I'd vote for the guy, but some stuff he wants for Canada at least on the surface makes some sense.

A few years ago a little nobody named harper was invited to his very first bilderberg meeting...FF>> 3 years and the arsehole is in charge.

So far, on his short watch, the prestigious Fairmount hotel chain has been sold, The Bay, the oldest company on earth has been sold, our troops are locked into afghanistan until 2009 and when they come home dead, whos gonna know now with his new legislation and lets not forget about the childcare debacle. Also, the canadian census has been farmed out to lockheed martin!!!!! This means were now subject to american court order if they see something they dont like.

I too have grave reservations. I also have hope, unreasonable, unjustified, undocumented thin, weak and enfeebled hope. I suspect he'll give just enough to get a majority and then watch out! That's my fear. Everyone should decide for themselves though.

Thanx for the welcome reply,

Victor K.

Even arch-conservative/curmudgeon over at CTV, Craig Oliver, is criticizing Harper's media style calling, Mr. Harper's actions "inefficient" and a potential impediment in a run-up to an election. Never thought I'd hear that after years of slagging the left, Oliver is even calling the NDP position on this "reasonable". Changing times or an advanced shell game? Mr. Harper will have to do something about the rift with the Ottawa press gallery at some point, I hope it is a positive development.

Thanx,

Victor K.
