Ethics

I wanted to see what the members of ATS think about ethical matters during wartime. A couple questions:

1) Is it ever morally right to torture someone in any way? (See any major dictionary for definition)

2) Is Character Assassination ever morally right?

3) If you answer yes to either of these questions, please feel free to clarify yourself.
