Wel it seems that the new Palestinian PM has the same problems with Arafat that his predecessor experienced.

news.bbc.co.uk...

"Palestinian officials are trying to resolve a new leadership crisis amid reports that Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has threatened to resign - just two days after he was sworn in.
Mr Qurei had told Mr Arafat angrily "I want you to relieve me of this job", before leaving his compound in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
Sources close to Mr Qurei say he was angered by Mr Arafat's attempts to "interfere" over security issues."

It's looking more and more likely that Arafat will never relinquish power to anyone.

They are all jostling for position for the eventual death or removal of Arafat. Now that the old dog is weak the others can act more powerful and try to fill the leadership vacuum that will emerge.
