The AWAC picture showed is not a terminal layout. this is only a platform for test AWAC using on future aircraft carrier. China has already started to build cairrer. The altered area was convanced is a new antenna.

I am very interested in the Chinese carrier bit.
Any concrete sources?
Any ideas on completion dates?

Hmm, why has the nose been scribbled out?

To me it look as if they are going back in time with the concepts.

How so? I couldn't begin to extrapolate radar technology purely from a picture of the dome.

The use of props is out dated to me.

Oh the plane, right
I think thats just a test bed installatiion (looks like the Chinese version of the An 12) not meant for service, but for all I know that might be propeller driven too when it is revealed.

The aircraft shown in the photo can't be a concept for a carrier based AWACS. It is way too big. The carrier it would be used on would have to be bigger than a US carrier. And then there is the problem of launching it off the carrier.....

Well, if they get rid of those old-fashioned propellors and design a prop-fan machine, they'll instantly have the best airframe in the world for AEW operations.

Something like an An-70.

Does anybody know, how loudy are these prop-fans? I experienced Scooter concert and 160 dB techno is heaven´s quiet compared to this.
