could the amount of shooting stars falling into our atmosphere each day compare to our chance of being struck by a meteor or other earth chattering space matter? Or are shooting stars really aliens constantly sending things through our atmosphere? How many would come through during the day when we can't even see the stars?

falling stars?

we pass thru certain remnants of meteor showers all the time. - which if you didnt know are infact the actual tail of the comet , since a comet tail can be quite dispersed in space due to solar wind etc.
Say for instance if we had a recent meteor show- say the taurans 7 months ago - we may hit a dense clump of matter this week by pure chance.

Thats the "dude down the pub version anyway"
