Originally from CNN
The latest revision of the United States' U.N. Security Council resolution gives a greater role to the U.N. in establishing a democratic Iraq and urges other countries to contribute money and troops to help stabilize the country.
The resolution states that Iraqis should take control of their country "as quickly as practicable" but sets no timetable, according to a draft obtained by CNN....

www.cnn.com...

And everyone was saying the US was the bad guy...
Look at this:

Despite pressure from U.N. Security Council members Russia, Germany, and France to speed the U.S. departure from Iraq, the draft includes no deadlines. The resolution does invite the U.S.-selected Iraqi Governing Council to set a timetable for creating a new constitution and holding democratic elections, and underscores the "temporary nature" of the U.S.-led coalition's control of Iraq.

Maybe the Honorable Secretary General has his own little agenda...
Looks like our troops will be stuck there for a couple more years...

Anyone else?

You can't expect money and troops to be sent in when it was the US and UK that started a war ignoring the UN.

UK and US troops will be there for a while and I doubt anybody else is going to give money to the US so they can consolodate their new oil wealth.

I believe India has ruled itself out.Forget France or Germany playing or paying.Russia might send troops but only if they were financially rewarded.

It's what happens when consensus politics is abandoned for unilateral pre-emptive action.

I'm surprised anyone is shocked.I thought everybody understood the consequences.

How does the US win here? The UN members are trying to avoid getting their own countries embroiled in post-war occupation. They'll do anything to avoid their own troops getting killed.

The US doesn't win at all, with no support from the UN they'll be embroiled in Iraq for decades.

They'll own Iraq for decades...
The US still has over a thousand troops in Cuba, and that's from a war that happened over thrity years ago.
That lease at Guantanomo Bay doesn't expire for another seventy years...

I don't think Bush cares about the UN.
France, Russia, and Iraq have been in it together for the past ten years at least...

The US wins another country, that's what they won...

LOL

The US "wins" another country? Not quite the vacation spot of choice, though, now is it. And it's going to cost the American taxpayer hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars that WON'T get spent on much needed things in the US (schools, infrastructure, medicaid, etc). Way to think things through!

Troops dying every single day, dozens getting wounded. Hey congrats! It's good that you can find the bright spot in all this.

Concensus politics?

sounds like annother word for let the socialists always win.

anyways the US has achieved much of what they wanted in Iraq. Now to consolidate.

It appears the UN has bowed to US pressure and allowed them a 'no time limit' period of adjustment.

The big problem is that which is faced in Afghanistan right now and the implementation of a local based government that is not radical.

Every effort to this end has been derailed by the 'liberal' media in the first world and that is their greatest enemy in all of this endeavour.
