Italian arrest over 'toxic wheat'

The head of Europe's biggest pasta mill has been arrested in the Italian city of Bari on food adulterating charges. He is alleged to have attempted to sell 58,000 tonnes of durum wheat containing a powerful cancer-producing toxin.

Francesco Casillo, the 39-year-old head of a family-run group of wheat millers and grain importers, was arrested by customs police in Bari.

He has been charged with offering for sale adulterated food for both human and animal consumption.

You will note that the wheat came from Canada.

The article also later says, "Police said a chemical called ochratoxin was present in quantities likely to cause the growth of cancers in consumers of pasta made from this consignment of wheat. "

Good thing they caught the guy.

This goes to show that "ignorance" is not the only thing we should fear about what is done to our food supply. There are criminal acts to look out for as well. Not everyone cares what you eat, as long as they can fill their pockets while you are eating it.

Seems like he effectively commited hundreds of acts of attempted murder.

It notes that the wheat was seized in port and already poisoned, with the plan to mix it with other wheat. Who poisoned the wheat in the first place? This is pretty shocking.
