Cheney is visiting Iraq today in a very surprise visit. His arrival was totally shrouded in secrecy as he showed up without even the Prime Minister knowing.
When the Prime Minister showed up for a meeting with the US Ambassador, VP Cheney was waiting to see him there.

Cheney is touring 5 Middle Eastern Countries and this visit was totally shrouded in secrecy for security reasons. Well I can understand why they kept this totally secret.

www.suntimes.com...

The daylong tour was so shrouded in secrecy that even Iraq's prime minister said he was surprised when he showed up for what he thought was a meeting with the U.S. ambassador only to see Cheney waiting to greet him.

Cheney's tour of the country came on the same day that President Bush was giving a prime-time Oval Office address to the nation on Iraq.

Cheney's aides said the timing was a coincidence, but regardless, the two events combined in a public relations blitz aimed at capitalizing on the elections to rebuild support for the unpopular war.

Well, can you imagine an announced visit?

I love it when they say "surprise" visit. It implies he's wanted there and what a thrill it is to have him come and surprise people!

Better he sticks to surprises for security reasons

Every one can understand the security situation in Iraq. If D. Cheny is afraid to show, how can the world accept Iraq as a secure place?

Mr Cheney should know that no nation, incuding U.S., likes invaders & conquerers. It is not new for the Iraqis, but ever it would happen , would be a new experience for the U.S. nation. Lands belong to none, they are owned by the inhabitants, Arabs, Red Indians or White Europeans.

Very good point. Why hide? IMO if we're doing so well and we are so well liked, the heroes should be able to show their faces. If like you said it is a very secured place, heck, he should jump out of a parachute and land right in the middle of Bagdhad. NOW that would be a surprise.
