Just been researching into the recent Venezuela elections and South America in general. I cannot help but notice that, according to the BBC, that certain countries in South America are going left. Some are stating that we are seeing a mini-communism rise in South America, is this true or just paranoid thinking?

I always though that most countries in south America are either dictatorship, socialist or communist.

So I guess it depend what we see as wrong. Right?

For most of us Americans the only good systems is the democratic one anything else is just evil.

But who knows it may work.

No, Venezuela is not Communist, there's no connection. It is a Socialist country, and socialism is differrent from Communism. It would be like calling France a Communist country simply because it is socialist. Venezuela has a democracy, Chavez was elected and reelected with people from all over the world acting as watchers to ensure an honest election. I think probably Venezuela needs to be socialist because of so many poor people. Chavez is trying to make the distribution of wealth more equitable. But he's not going after the middle class, comfortable or merely well off, he's going after people that have huge fortunes by doing land deals with them. If a large piece of land hasn't been used in like 50 years, he makes a deal with the owners and the land goes to the people so they can raise crops, etc. This is the first redistribution of land plan that has ever worked in history. The super rich apparently have not balked at it, either, which took a stroke of genius on Chavez's part to accomplish.

Venezuela is a democracy that is socialist, alot like many countries in Europe. Nothing wrong with that, especially if it works!

Yet again, the US mainstream media and its friendlies across the pond are working overtime to demonize Hugo Chavez. Its like being terribly hungover and being forced to listen to a broken recording of "Insane in the Membrane."

I agree with the above poster's description of it: a Socialist Democracy.

From everything I've seen and heard, Chavez is a hero to his people (you know - the little guys who get screwed over by the elites?). He has done good things for them, providing them with healthcare, education and new hope. He's even tried to extend his hand of help to us in our dark hours: Katrina relief efforts; cheap heating fuel).

What is wrong with that? Nothing! Unless you're one of the elitists who do not profit by helping the poor.

Wish we could find a leader with those kind of cajones and that kind of conscience.

Vive le Chavez!

Rockefeller has already told us of the Elite's plan towards world domination. Venezuela is coming soon, after Iran.

As has been said, Venezuela is not Communist.

Communism has never existed, just twisted ideologies that share some
of Marx's ideas, and those have been twisted in the ideologies to be
different from what Marx taught.
