In a sad tragedy in South Africa, a driver of a 4x4 Jeep lost control of his vehicle and plunged into 12 schoolchildren, killing 4 and critically injured 8. The driver had to be saved by the police when an angry croud wanted to lynch him.

Four schoolchildren between the ages of 13 and 15 are dead and another eight critically injured after a 4x4 that was travelling along the R617 between Bulwer and Howick ploughed into them on Friday afternoon.

The children were from Bulwer Primary School and were returning home from school when the accident occurred. The Road Traffic Inspectorate's Rajen Chinaboo said the driver of the Jeep 4x4 lost control of his vehicle around a bend and veered across the road, crashing into the 12 children who were on the opposite side of the road.

"The driver of the vehicle had to be ushered away by police as the public were beginning to vent their anger," said Chinaboo.
