BUDAPEST (AFX) - A prototype vaccine against the deadly Asian strain of bird flu being developed in Hungary for humans has already proved effective
for birds, the country's veterinary services (ANTSZ) said. 'The effectiveness of the protoype vaccine (against the Asian H5N1 strain of bird flu)
is proved among poultry and so it can be used to vaccinate them,' ANTSZ president Laszlo Bujdoso said in a statement quoted by the Hungarian MTI news
agency. Hungary's veterinary services are due to announce shortly the results of human clinical trials of this type of vaccine which has been being
tested on 150 volunteers since the end of September.
